This FAQ applies to Flourish Cash.
You can fund your Flourish Cash account from any of your existing checking or savings accounts. You may start with one account and add additional accounts at any time.
During the account setup process, you’ll have the opportunity to link and fund from your bank account. After your account is set up, simply click on your account from the main Dashboard page of your account and navigate to the “External Accounts” tab at the top of the screen to view your linked bank accounts or add additional ones. There are two ways to link a bank account to the system: “instant” linking and “manual” linking. Please note that Flourish SmartBalance is only available for checking accounts that were instantly linked to Flourish Cash (accounts connected by entering your online banking username and password).
To connect a bank account to your Flourish Cash account, follow the steps below.
If you are connecting a bank account for the very first time through the set-up process, you will automatically be guided through the steps below.
On web
- Log in to flourish.com
- Click on the desired account
- 3A) If this is your first time adding a bank connection, click on “Connect your bank” on the next page and skip to step 4
- 3B) If this is not your first time adding a bank connection click on “External Accounts” towards the top of the page
Click “Add external account”
On the page titled “Let’s add a new account to Flourish,” you will have the following options:- Click on “Connect a new bank” to add a new bank connection
- Toward the bottom of the page, you may also select bank accounts from a list of previously linked accounts
- On the “Flourish uses Plaid to connect your account” page, please click “Continue”
You will now be guided through the process of connecting a new bank account to Flourish using a secure service called Plaid.
Plaid may request a phone number as part of its identity verification and security process, and to make it easier to reconnect accounts in the future. Providing a phone number is often optional—you can select “Continue without phone number” if you prefer not to provide it.
You will have two options to link your bank account to Flourish Cash:
A. Link instantly with your bank credentials: You can instantly link your bank account by searching for your bank name in the search bar at the top of the screen, then entering your bank username and bank password. Instantly linking accounts is often the quickest way to link your bank account to your Flourish Cash account, as the verification process is usually completed in a minute or less and you can connect multiple accounts at the same time. Instantly linking your bank (checking) account is required in order to use SmartBalance.
- Search for your bank by name in the search bar at the top of the screen or choose from one of the popular institutions listed
- Follow the steps on the screen to enter your bank username and bank password. If your bank account requires multi-factor authentication, you may need to answer a question or enter a PIN that you’ll receive directly from your bank (usually via email, text, or a phone call) before you’ll be able to proceed.
- Connect the desired account(s) by checking the boxes next to each account name
- You will have the option to schedule a one-time deposit of any amount from one of the selected accounts (this step is optional). Once you’ve completed the “From” and the “Transfer amount” fields, click “Next” and then confirm the initial transfer on the following screen.
B. Link manually with your bank account and routing numbers: If your bank doesn't appear in the search results, or if you'd rather not connect your bank account with your username and password, you have the option to manually link your bank account to Flourish Cash using your account and routing numbers. To do so, scroll to the bottom of the “Select your institution” page and click on “Link with account numbers.”

In the iOS app
- Log in to the Flourish mobile app
- From the home page, tap your Flourish Cash account
- Tap Linked Accounts
- Tap Connect New Account
- Follow the prompts to connect your bank account.
Important notes for the iOS app
- You can add new external accounts in the app, but accounts that are stale cannot be re-synced in the app. Those accounts must be verified and re-synced in a web browser.
- When making a transfer in the app, only verified external accounts can be selected. If an account is unverified or pending a security hold, it will appear unavailable.
