You can fund your Flourish Cash account from any of your existing checking or savings accounts, and you can start with one account and add as many accounts as you’d like. You’ll have the opportunity to fund your account during the account setup process. Once your account is set up, simply navigate to the “External Accounts” tab at the top of the screen to view your linked bank accounts and to add more linked bank accounts.
There are two ways to link a bank account to the system: “instant” linking and “manual” linking. Please note that Flourish SmartBalance is only available for checking accounts that were instantly linked to Flourish Cash (accounts that you linked by entering your username and password with that bank).
To connect a bank account to your Flourish Cash account, follow the steps below.
If you are connecting a bank account for the very first time through the set-up process, you will automatically be guided through the steps below.
1) Log in to flourish.com
2A) If this is your first time adding a bank connection:
- Click “Fund” next to the Flourish Cash account
- Click on “Connect your bank” and skip to step 3 below
2B) If this is not your first time adding a bank connection:
- Click “Manage” next to your Flourish Cash account
- On the top of the screen, click on “External Accounts”
- Next, click on “Add external account”
- In the page titled “Let’s add a new account to Flourish,” you will be provided with the following choices:
- Click on “Connect a new bank” to add a new bank connection.
- Towards the bottom of the page, you will also be presented with the option to select bank accounts from a list of previously linked accounts.
3) In the Flourish uses Plaid page, please click “Continue”
- You will now be guided through the process of connecting a new bank account to Flourish using a secure service called Plaid. You now have two options to link your bank account to Flourish Cash:
A. You can instantly link your bank account by searching for your bank name in the search bar at the top of the screen, then entering your bank username and bank password. Instantly linking accounts is often the quickest way to link your bank account to your Flourish Cash account, as the verification process is usually completed in a minute or less and you can connect multiple accounts at the same time. Instantly linking your bank (checking) account is required in order to use SmartBalance.

- Search for your bank by name in the search bar at the top of the screen or choose from one of the popular institutions listed.
- Follow the steps on the screen to enter your bank username and bank password. If your bank account requires multi-factor authentication, you may need to answer a question or enter a PIN that you’ll receive directly from your bank (usually via email, text, or a phone call) before you’ll be able to proceed.
- Connect the desired account(s) by checking the boxes next to each account name.
- You will be able to schedule a one-time deposit of any amount from one of the selected accounts. Once you’ve completed the “From” and the “Transfer amount” fields, click “Next” and then confirm the initial transfer on the following screen.

B. If your banking institution doesn’t appear in the search bar or you don’t wish to instantly link your bank account, you can manually link your bank account to Flourish Cash by scrolling to the bottom of the “Select your institution” page and then clicking “Link with account numbers.” Simply follow the instructions on the screen:
1. Enter your account information: name, account type, account number, routing number
2. Receive a $0.01 verification deposit along with a 3-letter code in your external bank account

- In order to verify the account, we will deposit $0.01 into the bank account you are linking by the end of the very next business day (and sometimes within a few short hours).
- This deposit will include a verification code that begins with “#” and is followed by a three-letter code (e.g., #ABC). Your bank will typically display this code as a “transaction description,” “note” or “ID.”

- 3. Return to flourish.com to verify the 3-letter code:

- Once you have received the $0.01 verification deposit and noted the 3-letter verification code, please log in to Flourish.com and follow the steps below to verify your external bank account:

- Click on “Fund” or “Manage” next to your account
- Click on “External Accounts”
- Click on “Verify” below the relevant external bank account, then follow the steps on the screen to enter the verification code

- Once verified, your external bank account can be used to fund your Flourish account by clicking on “Make a new transfer” from the “Activity” page.
- Once you have received the $0.01 verification deposit and noted the 3-letter verification code, please log in to Flourish.com and follow the steps below to verify your external bank account:

Please note: if you don’t see the $0.01 verification deposit in your external bank account, please check again in another business day. If you still don’t see the deposit, you can attempt to link the bank account a second time from the “External Accounts” page of your Flourish Cash account, or you can contact our Client Support team for assistance.
